“Flunked” is a fantasy book written by Jen Calonita. I recommend it because it gives readers a look at what happens to the villains of the story after the happily ever after. Flunked features the main character Gilly Cobbler. Gilly lives in a rundown house, and her father is a shoemaker. One of his original designs was the glass slipper, but their business was slow, because the fairy godmother made glass slippers with just a wave of her wand. Because of this, Gilly often had to resort to stealing to keep her siblings fed. She thought she was pretty good of a thief, but then she got caught one too many times and was sent to Fairy Tale Reform school.
At Fairy Tale Reform school, Gilly finds that her teachers are actually reformed villains, including the big bad wolf, the sea witch, the evil queen, and even Cinderella’s stepmother, who is the headmistress of the school. There, Gilly makes friends with Kayla and Jax, and later Ollie and Maxine and together they find that their school may not be as reformed as they think. Gilly also meets Jocylen, the Evil Queen`s sister, and Jocylen and Gilly both instantly dislike each other.
Flunked is a story showing the reformed versions of iconic villains, with a saying, “Once a villain, always a villain.” In Flunked, Gilly Cobbler finds out if this really is true. Flunked looks at what happens to villains after their story ends, giving readers a page turning read.
I think you should read Flunked, and if you end up reading it and liking it, there are 5 more exciting books in the Fairy Tale Reform school series, Charmed, Tricked, Switched, Wished, and Cursed. I also recommend them, and they follow Gilly and her friends on other adventures. The Fairy Tale Reform series is available for purchase at Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, and can also be borrowed from the Clague library.
