Have you ever played Mario Bros? You likely have, as it’s one of the most popular games and has sold over 900 million units. Now, imagine if Mario were turned into a radish. Well, lucky for you, you don’t have to imagine! Dadish has made all your dreams come true, and it all starts with a dad radish, who has a lot of kid radishes.
The idea itself sounds funny and hard to believe, but with over 9,000 sales, it’s sure to be a game that can keep your interest. The game was made by independent developer Thomas K. Young and follows a tired radish father, otherwise known as Dadish, in search of his missing radish kids. Dadish encounters many food-inspired enemies as he continues to find his missing children. There are multiple worlds and levels, each with a different theme or obstacle, similar to Mario.
Each level gets progressively harder, and the first world is called Abaro Woods, which features nature-themed backgrounds and obstacles. This is the first world in Dadish, and it is set in an outdoor woodsy setting. Aside from the obstacles you must overcome to help Dadish get his kids, most levels have a hidden star, and if you collect all of them, it could unlock hidden content. The “boss” for Abaro Woods is Burgurgular, a burger that tries to stop Dadish from getting his kids.
The second world is Strando Beach, and as the name suggests, it has a beach setting with beach-themed obstacles and characters. The levels are also harder in this world, and the boss level is against a hot dog, also known as the second henchman to Lord Durnak. The levels continue on with Monto Mountain following Strando beach and Kastelo Forest as the final world in Dadish 1. The game is suitable for all ages, and many students at Clague say they enjoy the game.
“I love the game Dadish because it is a fun game that encourages adults to find their kids, because at the end of every game, Dadish finds his children,” seventh grader Lea Park said. “Additionally, some levels are more intense than others, which makes it more engaging.”
It’s not just the fun levels and challenging obstacles that people enjoy. The animations are also part of the allure. The animations are cute and naturally draw your attention. The pastel scenes are a breath of fresh air from the high contrast color palettes of other kinds of games.
“I think the name is really clever because it’s a Radish that’s a dad, so it’s Dadish,” seventh grader Olivia Yim said. “The design is very cute, and I think that’s why I mostly play the game. Each round is all very creative and fun to play!”
In addition to Dadish 1, there is Dadish 2, 3, 4, Dadish 3D, and Daily Dadish. These can be played on various online platforms, including Nintendo. Still, Dadish fans are eagerly waiting for more levels, more worlds and ultimately more fun.
