“One of Us Is Lying” is a mystery novel about five high school students: Bronwyn, Addy, Nate, Cooper, and Simon. They all walked into detention because they were caught with their phone in their backpack. When they walked out, only four were left alive. Simon, the creator of the Bayview High School’s most popular gossip app, died suddenly during detention.
The police suspect that it wasn’t an accident, and the remaining four become suspects in the case. All four had a secret that Simon was about to expose, giving all four a viable motive. As the story goes on, the students form unexpected bonds and begin to uncover the truth about Simon, themselves, and the pressure they face. As they work together to solve the mystery.
Written by Karen M. McManus, “One of Us Is Lying” makes you feel like you are in the situation yourself, trying to be a detective and uncover the mystery. It is a popular murder mystery that many teenagers love. It was published on May 29, 2017.
Personally, I feel that the book is engaging and enjoyable because it combines mystery and realistic characters. I like how the story is told from multiple points of view, which makes the mystery more interesting. The fast-paced plot and the secrets being uncovered keep the readers interested. It does have some inappropriate language, but otherwise I recommend it.
One of Us Is Lying is available to borrow at AADL libraries or purchase at Target, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and many more. If you start reading, you will be sitting down for hours.
