The new book Jeff Kinney wrote, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Partypooper,” is the 20th book in the series and was published this year in 2025. The book portrays a middle school aged boy who thinks the world revolves around him. If you like humorous, adventurous and entertaining, then this book is for you.
The main character, Greg Heffley, is the middle child of two other brothers which he isn’t very fond of. Greg seizes his chance for his moment when his birthday is this time of year. Greg is counting down the days until his birthday, and it finally arrives. He thinks his family is throwing him a surprise party because his family never even acknowledged his birthday, he thought they were saving it for the party. But Greg learns the hard way when that didn’t happen at all and he didn’t get what he wanted.
The quote, “When plans don’t go right, go left,” is what this book reminded me of when Greg used his missed opportunity to get a surprise birthday party and started to plan the best birthday party ever. When other parents had found out that Greg never got any celebration, they said he should get something called a “retake birthday” because Greg had gone his whole birthday not telling anyone or getting anything for his birthday.
One of the cool features of this book is the cool character drawings in it. Jeff Kinney draws all of the characters with details and unique images. The drawings are black and white and they have no color.
I really liked this book because the way the book is written is as if you are reading a “diary” with Greg’s writing. This book is a quick page turner, and once you start reading, you don’t want to stop. I also liked this book because you read about different awkward family moments, and relatable times. Greg is a funny character because he is always trying to find ways to make himself look good and is always stating why he is better than other characters.
I definitely recommend this book because it is a great new addition to the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series. If you liked what you heard above, then this should be your next read.
