If you’re a fan of fantasy adventures, Shannon Messenger’s Keeper of the Lost Cities is a series you shouldn’t miss. The bestselling books have exploded in popularity over the past few years, drawing readers in with their mix of magic, mystery, and just the right amount of romance.
The first book was published on Oct. 2, 2012 and the final book is going to be published on Nov. 4th, 2025. I am guessing that the next book will be about how the main character was going to overcome her challenges and finally defeat the other group. Over 7 million copies of the Keeper of the Lost Cities books have been sold worldwide so far! It is truly a fantastic series that many people love and enjoy.
The books are different from normal books. Instead of a conventional format, Shannon Messenger chooses to publish ½ books between publishing the actual books. The first ½ book that appeared in the series was the 8.5 book. It was a guide to Sophie’s (the main character’s) world. The second ½ book was the 9.5 book. Book 9.5 told the story from another character’s point of view and what he experienced. This series is really special because of that.
One reason I love this book is because the girl overcomes many obstacles and difficulties and she is actually just a normal girl. These books are very appropriate for all ages and she is not that familiar with the new setting. She is not very powerful either and she is always being teased.
Keepers of the Lost Cities is about the life of 12-year-old, Sophie Elizabeth Foster. Sophie lives in a small house with her sister, Amy Foster, and her parents, William Foster and Emma Foster. Everything was okay in her life until she fell and hit her head when she was five and woke up in a hospital bed, being able to read other people’s minds. Sophie kept her powers a secret.
But everything really changed once she realized who she truly was. She was forced to leave her home and her world to join with her adoptive parents, Edaline Ruewen and Grady Ruewen, who had endured a horrible accident in which their daughter, Jolie Ruewen, passed away, and Sophie thinks they might not want her. Balancing the fact that she is new to this world, and leaving her “forever home”.
She managed in the end, of course, but she had struggled through many difficulties. A question many people might wonder is how Sophie found out that she was an elf? A boy named Fitz Vacker, who was ordered by his father, Alden Vacker, to find her. One normal day, during a high school field trip, while she was being teased as usual, a blue-eyed boy (Fitz) caught her eye, and she instantly turned around; her stomach fluttered. He was looking at the latest news article of her choosing a small private college over a prestigious Ivy League institution. Sophie flushed with embarrassment. The boy asked her a few strange questions. She quickly found out that the boy could read minds, too, and rushed out to catch some air, which led to Fitz, the boy, showing her where she truly belonged.
The next parts are really giant spoilers, so proceed with caution. Sophie had gone to school and finally, after months, finally made some friends, but until she found out that she was an experimented daughter led by a group called the Black Swan. She was not made by the Black Swan, but her biological mother handed Sophie to the Black Swan, which was torturous, according to Sophie.
The Black Swan expects Sophie to save both the human world and the Lost Cities. But can Sophie handle it all?
There are 11 books so far and the next (and last) book is coming out on Nov. 4, 2025, and is so far untitled and soon, there will be a movie of the series. My opinion on the new book is that it is ending too and most of the “bad” characters are still there. The series is really the best and has so many details but it is ending . This is a must-read for all ages. So what are you waiting for? Let’s dive in together and read the awesome Keeper of the Lost Cities series!
