Time to run: track season starts

Track and Field can be an imperative sport for many people, especially at a young age because it shows you healthy exercise habits and you can make friends while doing track. Track season began last week at Clague.

“I decided to do track this season because I like running and I found that when I run, it keeps my mind off stressful things,” sixth grader Amos Boonstra said.

Another benefit of track is that people can start at a very early age because of the simplicity, while also receiving great exercise. Although one may not be able to do events at a very young age, they can always start practicing just by running.

“I have past track experience at my old school in fifth grade and in the fall this year,” Boonstra said.

In sixth grade at Clague, all sports are intramural, meaning games are played to give these new students a chance to see if they like the sport and want to try out for it the next year. This is also the case for sixth grade track.

“Students should play a sport in sixth grade because it can influence their future in many positive ways,” Boonstra said.

Track is also a sport that can be done for a long time because of how easy it is to set up, practice, and compete. All high schools in Ann Arbor have track teams for students to join after middle school.
