At Clague Middle School, a debate for the best water bottle is hot. Students are divided between two popular choices.
The Stanley tumblers and the Owalas have quickly become some of the most popular water bottles in schools across the country. It seems like almost everyone is carrying one of these.
As this intense debate heats up, the question rises. Is it better to have the large, aesthetic Stanley or the spill-proof design of the Owala?
“I like Stanleys because the colors and designs are really cute,” seventh grader Annabelle Yang said.
Stanley supporters said that their water bottles hold a large amount of water. This is helpful for long school days as you don’t need constant refills.
“I only have to fill my Stanley once, and it lasts me the whole day,” seventh grader Ella Khailany said.
In addition to their large capacity, students also stated that the temperature stays the same over long periods of time.
“My ice is still there even after school, which doesn’t happen with other bottles,” Khailany added.
While Stanleys are well insulated and large, they are not very convenient on a busy school day. For students constantly moving between classes, an easy-to-carry and leak-free water bottle could make the difference.
“My Owala never leaks, and I don’t have to keep cleaning up messes in my bag,” seventh grader Olivia Yim said.
Owala supporters said that their bottle’s unique design allows efficient, quick sipping without needing to fully unscrew a lid.
“It’s so easy to just press the button and drink during class without making a mess,” sixth grader Irene Yeo said.
Students also said that Owalas are easy to carry and store throughout the day.
“It fits perfectly in my backpack,” Yeo added.
As the debate continues, it’s clear that both bottles have earned their place in students’ backpacks. In the end, what matters is that Clague students are staying hydrated.
