At Clague, there is a courtyard that kids used to be able to go out to at lunch but now kids can’t go out now because of their past behavior. We have gone out twice this year but both times there was a conflict like stepping on a bee hive and getting into a conflict.

We should be able to go outside in the middle of the day and get fresh air but kids keep screaming at the top of their lungs and others won’t sit down and some people throw food at each other then they leave it on the table.  We are in middle school, we should be able to follow the directions and get to do these things. But because of our actions then we won’t get it.  

One reason we think that we should be able to go outside is because students should be able to get fresh air at some point in the day instead of being cooped up inside. “We have seven hours straight of no outdoor timec” sixth gradersixth grader Henry Golemwieski said.

Another thing about this is that he says we aren’t allowed to run or play tag or anything like that. Almost everyone wants to be able to run around during the time we are outside and if we run outside then we will get more exercise. Most students probably want to get exercise and a lot of adults say that kids need to get more exercise and get off their devices. 

 “We have only been out there twice so I don’t know what to do,” sixth grader Tomas Badalamente said. “Sometimes I don’t think kids need 30 min to eat lunch.”                                                                                    

Something else that we also think about the Clague courtyard is that it’s not even very necessary if we never get to go. We never go at lunch but also we never really go at any point in the day like classes or in advisory which would actually make sense but it’s probably a bit early to go during advisory and not after lunch. Kids used to go out during advisory when it was after lunch and during the day not in the first thing in the morning. 

Another thing about why the courtyard is unnecessary is because not only students don’t use it but also adults never use it even though they spent so much time and money renovating it. At this point it’s just for looks.

 “We should still have the courtyard because it is pretty to look out through the windows and it’s a good place to take pictures,” Sixth Leila Eckard said

This is why we think that we should be allowed to go out to the Clague courtyard at lunch and why it is unnecessary to have.
