This tropical flower is called a Blue Ginger. Normally found in tropical woodlands of North, Central and South America, especially in Atlantic Forest vegetation in Brazil, as the name suggests, this flower is a bright blue or violet. The last piece of the orchestra's repertoire was “The Octavator” by Michael Hopkins, a constituent and professor of Music Education at the University of Michigan. With formidable confidence, a G octave was the last note played in this vivacious piece. “I’m so proud of what the students have accomplished so far this year they’re on their way to great things,” Alwin said. “Beautiful playing, and they looked so happy on the stage.”
