The Detroit Lions have finished a great season. It was their first time making the NFC championship game since 1991, but they unfortunately lost in the NFC championship game. Their regular season record was 12-5 which is also their best regular season record since 1991.
The Lions’ Quarterback, Jared Goff, had 4,575 passing yards and 30 passing touchdowns, which was one of his best seasons ever. The Lions also had two very productive running backs, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery— which were a history-making duo this year. Gibbs, a rookie from Alabama, had 945 rushing yards this season, and Montgomery had 1015 rushing yards this season.
Other notable mentions include Amon-Ra St. Brown, a wide receiver with 1,515 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns, and Sam LaPorta, a tight end with 889 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns.
To get to the NFC championship game, the Lions had to win two playoff games. They were close games, however the Lions did end up winning both. In the Wildcard round (the first round), the Lions played the Los Angeles Rams and won 24-23. This was very exciting for me and my family because it was their first win in the playoffs since 1991 and haven’t been great since. In the Divisional Round (the second round), the Lions played the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and got a game winning interception to win 31-23. I was very nervous towards the end of this game because they had a bigger lead and was very excited when they won!
The Lions final game of the season, the NFC Championship game was played against the San Francisco 49ers and the Lions were up by 17 points at halftime but because of 24 unanswered points by the 49ers, the Lions lost which was very disappointing for me because it seemed they were going to the Super Bowl the whole first half. Though they were so close to the Super Bowl and were winning by 17 points, they still lost, which unfortunately marked the end of their historical season.
