This year at Clague Middle School, students are celebrating Valentine’s Day with many features. Some teachers at Clague are even putting hearts on for decoration to see.
In the library, they have a “Don’t judge a book by its cover” program by using a “blind date with a book.” This program works by wrapping a piece of paper around the books so you can’t see the cover, then taking one home to read. If interested in joining the program and participating, go to the library. Also, if you like the book you picked, you can rate it and be entered into a contest to have the chance to win a box of chocolates.
In room 201, student council’s advisor Cheyenne Taylor is selling Candy Grams to raise donations for the Humane Society of Huron Valley. This event takes place from Wednesday Feb. 5 to 12. The candy gram is a note you can send to someone you like with a piece of candy, it costs $1. This year, they’re giving it with Sour Patch candy. The candies will be delivered to your advisory on Feb. 13.
At lunch, in the cafeteria, you’ll see a table with a stack of pink papers. You have to pay the student council to send a candy gram, write their advisory and name to be successfully delivered. Candy Grams are not mandatory but it’s a fun way to spread love around Clague while raising money for the Humane Society. Student council member and eighth grader Addison Smith created this idea to help out.
“My whole family volunteers at the humane society, and it means a lot to us that the animals are adopted by good, loving families,” Smith said. “The humane society staff (and animals) are always looking for donations, so I thought it would be a good idea to have a school drive for it.”
She has been a part of the student council since the beginning of eighth grade.
“I plan on creating a better life for the animals at the humane society with the drive,” Smith said. “And spread positivity through the school with my student council peers.”
