Diwali, also known as Deepawali, is one of Hinduism’s biggest and most celebrated festivals. It gets its name from rows (avali) of clay-made candles (Deepa). Hindus light these candles outside their homes to symbolize the “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance”. “Diwali begins just before the arrival of a new moon between the Hindu months of Asvina and Kartika—,” said National Geographic. “which typically falls in October or November of the Gregorian calendar.”
This year it is celebrated on Sunday, Nov. 12., 2023, and some of the celebrations we must go through (Hindus) are…. Diya lighting (Candles), Puja (Prayers/worship), Havan (Fire offerings), Fasting, home cleaning/decoration, fireworks, gifts, and making sweets.
