“Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” — Ian Malcolm, Jurassic Park
In the summer of 1993, Jurassic Park captivated audiences worldwide. Directed by Steven Spielberg, and starring Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, a dedicated paleontologist. People were enamored by the fresh new idea of the dinosaurs being brought back, even with all the repercussions that could come with it. The movie brought to the table complex ethical dilemmas as well as humor and lovable characters.
The story begins with our two main characters going about their day as they normally would. Allen Grant and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) were unearthing a raptor skeleton at a dig site when an unexpected guest arrived: John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), a rich entrepreneur with a strange request. He wanted the two scientists to visit his biological reserve and theme park for a weekend and give an endorsement of the park’s safety. In return for their time, Hammond would fund their dig for the next three years.
Though the pair initially refused the offer, they could not resist the compensation they would receive and eventually gave in.
Joining Grant and Sattler on the trip were Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), a mathematician with a sarcastic, thoughtful and witty personality. Along with Hammond’s grandchildren: Lex Murphy (Ariana Richards) and her younger brother, Tim Murphy (Joseph Mazzello).
But soon after landing, the guests discovered that this was not an ordinary park; Hammond had created dinosaurs using DNA from preserved mosquitoes. Grant and Sattler were shocked by this discovery.
Grant and Sattler were in the land of their dreams, walking among the animals that they had spent their whole lives only being able to imagine.
But disaster struck when, during the tour, Dennis Nedry, a park employee, shut down the facility’s electricity to steal dinosaur embryos and sell them to a rival company. As a result, the park’s electric fences fail, allowing the dinosaurs to escape.
Grant, along with Lex and Tim, are left stranded in the park and must find a way to survive on their own and get back to the others so that they can all escape the island safely.
In summary, Jurassic Park is a great movie that combines science and action. With amazing effects and memorable characters, it remains enjoyable for a broad audience. Whether you love dinosaurs or are just looking for an exciting movie, it’s definitely worth watching.
