This school year, as students walked into the building, returning seventh and eighth graders were met with a surprise. Along with the change of advisory now being held during first hour, the school has added a warning bell to the daily schedule.
Many students found this addition unhelpful and would prefer the old bell schedule.
“I don’t think the warning bell is helpful because it adds more stress without actually making a difference on whether people get to class on time,” seventh grader Jyothsana Subbu Arumugum said. “Honestly, it feels unnecessary. If someone is going to be late, one extra bell isn’t going to change that.”
Students find themselves stressed as the warning bell rings due to its sound being very similar to that of the final bell.
Some see the warning bell as a friendly reminder to get to class on time.
“I feel like it is very helpful for people who talk a lot in the hallways,” seventh grader Elyse Kwon said. “But for other people, it might not be the best. I kind of think there are too many bells during school.”
The common consensus among students seems to be that the warning bell may be helpful for some, but adds unnecessary confusion and stress for others.
But when you bring teachers into the conversation, the responses are slightly more positive.
“The jury is still up for debate,” seventh grade History teacher Karma Nordstrom said. “I like the new warning bell because it gets students in class faster, but for the new morning advisory, I miss going outside.”
Overall, the bell schedule has triggered mixed reactions among both students and teachers. Vote below to share your opinions.
