The City of Ann Arbor announced that “beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, May 12, Nixon Road between Plymouth Road and Huron Parkway will be closed to through traffic.” This will be a major disruption to some of Clague’s transportation methods.
Kyron Harvell, the principal of Clague Middle School, stated that nearby Ann Arbor Public Schools bus routes would “be on detour to avoid the area.”
“I think closing down Nixon Road will be a huge problem because it’s the main road that kind of connects things together,” Clague eighth grader Liam Harizanoff-Mancour said.
He remarked further, questioning the importance of the project and how it will affect the students.
“How will people that don’t take the bus get through [the] drive-line and stuff? This could cause major traffic issues because it’s a main road people use daily, not a side street,” Mancour said.
“Local residential access will be maintained and pedestrian walkways will not be affected,” the City of Ann Arbor said in its official notice.
